3 Natural Solutions To Reduce The Sniffling, Sneezing, And Snot of Your Seasonal Allergies

The spring season may bring April showers and May flowers for some people, but for many, the season is associated with pollen and allergies. From itchy, watery eyes to the sniffling and sneezing of a runny and swollen nose, it is easy to see how nature can become overwhelming this spring season. If you are part of the 50 million Americans who suffer with allergies each year, reducing the symptoms this spring is smart. Using this guide of natural solutions, you can reduce the sniffling, sneezing, and snot-sucking that stems from your seasonal allergies.

Nasal Rinses

Using a nasal irrigation system is a great way to remove allergens from your nose and airway. Conveniently, different sprays and irrigation systems are available.

The use of a nasal irrigation pot is becoming a popular option due to the simplicity of this treatment. Purchase a nasal irrigation pot and a saline solution from your local drug store or discount retailer. If you prefer to make your own saline solution, bring a quart of distilled water to a boil on your stove top. Once boiling, mix in 1 teaspoon of Himalayan or sea salt. Stir to make sure the salt dissolves into the water. Allow it to cool before pouring into the nasal irrigation pot.

Tilt your head to the side, leaning over your bathroom sink. Pour the irrigation pot full of saline solution into the upper part of one nostril. Breathe through your mouth while the saline solution drains out of the lower portion of your nostril. Repeat the process on your other nostril to clear out your sinuses during allergy season.

An irrigation pot will rinse away dirt, dust, and allergens from your nostrils, but you may prefer a more involved manner of cleaning out your sinuses. Nasal sprays allow you to reduce congestion in your nose, ensuring you are able to breathe without sniffling and sucking up snot.To create a natural nasal spray, add some of the above nasal solution to a small bottle. When you need to loosen congestion in your nose and remove dust and other allergens, dip a bulb syringe to suction the solution from the bottle. Then, place the bulb syringe into a nostril. Squeeze the bulb to force a few drops of  the saline solution up into your nasal passages. Repeat on the second nostril.

Probiotics

Seasonal allergies decrease the strength of your immune system, which can increase the sniffling, sneezing, and snot-sucking congestion. Fortunately, you can improve your immune system by increasing your intake of probiotics.

Found in a variety of foods and supplements, probiotics are healthy bacteria that can balance out your digestive and immune systems. This will decrease the physical symptoms of your spring allergies, allowing you to enjoy the season without discomfort.

Consider consuming the following probiotic-rich foods each day to decrease your allergy symptoms:

  • Yogurt
  • Kefir
  • Sauerkraut
  • Pickles
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Kombucha Tea

If you prefer to increase your probiotics through dietary capsules, make sure to choose a high dose supplement. Take the supplement for at least 3 months to see effective relief of your allergy symptoms.

Improve Air Quality

Reducing the allergens in your home is also wise for decreasing the sniffling, sneezing, and snot-sucking from your spring allergies. To get started, replace the filters of your heating and cooling system.

HVAC filters trap dust, dirt, and dander that comes into the home through your system's ductwork. If these filters are clogged, the allergens will flow freely into your home, decreasing the quality of your indoor air and increasing your allergy symptoms.

Replace the system's filters every 2 to 3 months to improve your home's air quality while reducing your symptoms of seasonal allergies.

Spring allergies are challenging to avoid, but you can decrease the sniffling, sneezing, and snot-sucking with these natural solutions. Using these tips and the help of your doctor, you can reduce the symptoms of seasonal allergies in a natural manner.
